Monday Mag agrees: Hetherington drives down level of discourse in SGI
As an update to my last post, readers may be interested in reading the coverage given to Hetherington’s news release by Victoria’s Monday Mag, a free weekly paper. Essentially, Monday Mag agrees that Hetherington’s comments represent an early descent into dirty politics for the Saanich–Gulf Islands race.
With yet another federal election looming on the horizon, in Saanich-Gulf Islands the level of discourse is already descending to the depths Canadians have come to expect from our politicians.
Looks like the mud slinging may have backfired.
Nice spin, Camille. It goes on to say: “But May says the small voter turnout reflects only the fact the Green meeting had to compete with the beloved Salt Spring Island Fall Fair, where most of the riding’s 250-or-so card-carrying party members live.”
So, with the planet at risk, the importance of getting E May elected, she loses because of the TWO DAY Salt Spring Fair? As the churchlady used to say ‘How convenient!” And “250 or-so card-carrying members”? I thought I read it was around 100 somewhere, with maybe 50 expired. Hmmm. Are we being honest here?
Yes, “the level of discourse is already descending to the depths Canadians have come to expect from our politicians”, including yours.
(And what’s the chance that the Monday Mag has green members? Pretty high, I’d say)
Hey Camille,
Thanks for posting this (and your last post)! Also don’t worry about The Silent Majority as they are clearly a noisy minority and an ass too cowardly to use their own name.
Angus Reid latest poll results, Friday, October 2, 2009:
British Columbia
Conservatives: 42 (+5)
Liberals: 23 (-6)
NDP: 28 (+12)
Green:7 (-1)
SM – “she loses”? May won the nomination, in case you missed it. If it was a contest between the number of Liberal members or GPC members in SGI, then that’s not a fight she was going to win so shortly after picking the riding, so I don’t see the point in using that as a yardstick.
